ABDULLAH SAYS HE WILL LOOK INTO HINDRAF'S MEMORANDUM

BUKIT MERTAJAM, Aug 23 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi has given the assurance that he will look into the 18-point memorandum submitted to him by the Hindu Rights Action Force (Hindraf) here Saturday.

Hindraf, comprising 30 Hindu non-governmental organisations, among other things, called for the release of over 100 Indians currently detained under the Internal Security Act (ISA).

Among them are four of the group's legal advisors P. Uthayakumar, M. Manoharan, R. Kengadharan and V. Ganabatirau as well as the group's coordinator T. Vasanthakumar.

The five were detained under Section 8 (1) of the ISA following the massive illegal gathering in Kuala Lumpur on Nov 25 last year.

They are currently serving detention at the Kamunting Detention Centre in Taiping, Perak since Dec 13, 2007.
